The resident herd at Jabulani has its own remarkable story. Many of the elephants were rescued as orphans. They have grown up together on the reserve, cared for by a dedicated team of handlers who have built genuine, long-term bonds with them. Staying here is not just a luxury experience. It is a front-row seat to one of the most moving conservation stories in Africa.

The Wildlife and Game Drives

Jabulani sits within the Kapama Private Game Reserve, a Big Five reserve adjacent to Kruger National Park. Our game drives delivered some of the most extraordinary wildlife moments of the entire trip.

A leopard walked directly under our vehicle. A family of four male lions moved through the bush alongside several females just as the last of the daylight disappeared. Sundowners in the bush with a full bar, the sky turning gold, and the kind of silence that only exists in a place like this.

Our guides were exceptional in every way. Knowledgeable, deeply attuned to the bush, and committed to creating the most meaningful experience possible for every guest in the vehicle.

The Elephant Experiences

These deserve their own section, because they are unlike anything else offered on the continent at this level.

Elephant Swim Time. Every day, like clockwork, the herd comes down to the water to play, splash, and roll in the mud. Pure, uninhibited joy. Watching these animals in that moment, with handlers they have known for years, is one of the most remarkable things we have ever witnessed.

Elephant Feeding. The opportunity to meet three very special residents up close, to understand their individual personalities and histories, and to experience the genuine bond between the elephants and their caretakers. It is the kind of encounter that changes how you think about these animals.

The Elephant Sundowner. We do not have the words to fully describe this experience, so we will not try. What we will say is this: cocktails in the golden-hour bush, surrounded by the resident herd, with the sky doing everything it does at that hour in Africa. It is a moment that does not leave you.

The Accommodations

We were placed in a three-bedroom villa overlooking the bush, and it stands as one of the most extraordinary rooms any of us have ever stayed in. The scale, the design, the private outdoor space, the way it is positioned within the landscape.

The lodge suites are equally exceptional for guests staying in standard accommodations, offering private decks, plunge pools, and interiors that balance high-end luxury with a genuine connection to the environment.

The Food and Hospitality

Jabulani operates on a fully inclusive model: meals, drinks, game drives, and the elephant experiences are all included. The quality of the food is exceptional across every service, and the hospitality is the kind that feels personal rather than performative.

Our final evening was a traditional Boma dinner, open fire, incredible food, our entire team seated together under the African sky. Laughing, tearing up a little, and sitting in genuine gratitude for the experience we had just had. It was, simply, one of the best nights of the trip.
